Little shoes, Big Feet
Aaaaaaah! How can you look at these amazing shoes and not just sigh and smile... :) Okay, I may be a bit psycho, or so people tell me... But you have to admit the beauty of these shoes... If you don't agree - boo you!
Anyhoo, I had to give you a look at the simply amazing shoes before telling its story. So this is the story of this pair of shoes...
Around the beginning of this year I went window shopping around town, just walking in and out of shops ogling the awesome clothes I'd love to own and trying on the cutest shoes I wish I could afford but making do with just modelling around in them for 2 minutes thinking I'm a hot shoe model... I then go into Edgars (a store I don't really expect to come out of with bags) but its nice to look none the less... I go straight to the shoe section, and there are these amazing purple shoes that are just thee cutest! I had to try them on! And they looked ever so cute on me (if I do say so myself). I knew they were just made for me, but alas the price tag wasn't. The shoes were going for about R250 to R300, which was out of my budget for shoes (especially since I'd bought about 2 pairs just the previous week, which I came to regret when I saw these babies). But, I do have self control (most of the time) so I walked away calmly, dreaming of the day when I'll be able to buy all the shoes in the world. And so time moved on and so did I and I came to forget about those gorgeous heels that stole my heart for a moment...
THEN come August 9th and I'm shopping around with my cousins at the mall and we go into Edgars, which happened to be having a HUGE sale - 50% off on most stock. Usually even this won't excite me too much, BUT, it was 50% off the already marked down price! I mean, could life GET any more exciting! So we're looking around and BAM! What do we see but this solitary pair of purple shoes! And they were marked down to R150! Plus 50% off that! It just so happened that all three of us liked the shoe. Unfortunately my cousins wear bigger sizes and I take a 4 in heels, this was a 5 :( I thought I'd try my luck none the less, but they were just too big :( We were truly depressed. But again, I managed to deal with the pain.
That Saturday I went to the Edgars in town, and I made a bee line for the shoes. And there, in front of me, was (drum roll) a single pair of purple heels in a size 4! I could NOT believe my luck. I tried them on and they were just perfect, I quickly found a box and popped them in my trolley and grinned like a nutcase for the rest of the day.
I could not believe me luck (still can't), especially seen as I'm not really a lucky person, quite the opposite in fact. And so I couldn't stop talking about my new shoes, I told everyone about them and kept looking for an excuse to wear them. Alas I could not find a valid reason for wearing them, and I would NOT waste them on work. So they're just sitting in my room, 'cause I have to look at them everyday and they're too good to be kept away with the rest of my shoes. And now we come to the bit which this blog title refers to...
Some 'visitors' popped by over the weekend. 'They' came into my room. 'They' see my shoes and mention it, having heard so much about it from me already. 'They' ask what size it is. I say size 4. 'They' take a size 5 and 6. Before I know what's happening, said person is shoving her feet into my shoe while asking if she can try them on! I was utterly horrified, but alas I am too nice to say anything so I just leave it. I later try on my shoes, and they are loose! Just a wee bit, but my feet seem to slip out. I am completely devastated and shocked at how cunning people can be! Firstly, why would ANYONE want to try on someone else's shoes?! And secondly, who on earth would force their massive feet into SOMEONE ELSE"S shoes knowing they're too small?! AND I've never gotten to wear the shoes out yet!
So alas, this week brought on a fresh bout of hate towards human kind. I'm just praying I manage to walk in my shoes :(

Twilight...
Ahem... Something I NEVER thought I would EVER say, but here goes - I read Twilight (the first book in the "Twilight saga") aaaaaand I LOVED it!
Okay so I've already discovered (and admitted to a few) that I'm a closet romantic and complete girly girl over certain things, such as romances and SHOES (how could I NOT mention shoes?!). Gosh I almost got sidetracked there... But anyhoo, yes, I'm a complete sop for love stories, but I never thought I'd be a Twilight fan!
I happened to be introduced to Twilight with the movie, which happens to be the worst introduction to the Twilight saga. A friend and I decided to watch the movie on a whim, and we made fun of it the entire way through. We could not believe how lame it was. Like REALLY, could a movie BE any more lame?! And the line where Edward goes: "you're my own personal brand of heroin" - who SAYS stuff like that?! And as for Kirsten Stewart as Bella, GOSH! She completely murders the role. I could have done a better job (though I do fancy myself an actress, so it could just be my bias...). But truly, COULD they have chosen a worse actress to play Bella... Robert Pattinson as Edward I don't really mind. If the movie were made differently on the whole I think he's a good actor as Edward. If I were making the movie I'm not sure if I'd use him, but I do think he'd make a good Edward under better circumstances... As for Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black - they could not have picked a more perfect actor for the role. He carries the role of extremely well and really brings the character to life for me. Especially when you look at his complete transformation from the first movie to the second - which goes perfectly with his transformation from the innocent, naive boy to the more knowledgeable young man.
While reading the book I didn't mind having the image of Taylor Lautner as Jacbob in my mind - in fact, I actually drew on that image... However, yet again the movie proved to be an annoyance to me, I battled to get Kirsten Stewart out of my head as Bella. I tried ever so hard to remove that horrible image from my mind, but it was oh so difficult :( Especially seen as the version of the book I read had HER on the cover!
I'm one of those people who likes forming my own images of the character in my mind when reading, and so this was very painful for me. Especially when I realized that Bella was NOT the character depicted by Kirsten Stewart (at least not to me anyway).
But, despite these hindrances, I managed to make it through the book, and still love it. Bella IS a bit of a desperate case at times when it comes to Edward, but I'm able to see pass that, and shes actually a very likable person. I find that I'm able to relate to her as a very clumsy person whose always falling over herself and tripping on nothing, and getting into awkward situations when there is none! Also her awkwardness on the whole and her prior unpopularity and her appreciation of personal space... She's just a character that has my heart from the beginning (whereas in the movie I would NEVER see Bella as someone I could like, much less relate to).
Another thing about the book is that it's absolutely hilarious! I would have never guessed. I know that the Breaking Dawn movie part 1 was really funny, but I'm not sure they'd intended it to be... So I pretty much didn't expect this book to funny in the least, especially not after the movie. But I found myself sitting in my room in the middle of the night laughing like a lunatic. From the things Bella does and her sarcasm to Edward and his amusement of Bella and his treatment of her and well, I can't even think of them all at the moment, but there are so many moments where I actually just stopped reading and laughed. It's actually the most I've laughed when reading a book in a long time (if not on the whole).
All I can say is that I love this book. It reminds me of The Immortals series by Alyson Noel. I'm actually thinking of buying myself a copy of the Twilight saga books (I read a borrowed copy). It's THAT good. And I know that I'd actually read it again - just for a good laugh. My biggest regret is not having read the books before watching the movies. And lets just say, if I were Stephanie Meyer, I'd sue the people who made the movies...

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
I've heard about Agatha Christie. I mean, you're bound to hear of her at some point in one's life. I just never thought I'd actually read her work... I mean yeah sure I love reading, but I'm not one of those huge literature bumpkins who HAVE to have read all the big names and what not. I just read what ends up in front of me...
So, it turns out that Agatha Christie's "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" happened to end up in front of me. I popped into CNA one day and there it was! Going for only R24.95! They're having this fortnightly Christie collection series. So, you get this first book at a pretty awesome price, with a magazine full of stuff about the book and Christie (I haven't read the magazine). Alas, with some convincing from my cousin, I bought the book.
And it was awesome! It truly is a gripping read and certainly keeps up the mystery. It reminded me of a murder mystery/thriller play that I once saw (though for the life of me I cannot recall the name). But it did involve a group of people in a little town and a mysterious murder where everyone is a suspect and plays their part in hindering the investigation and truth in some way or the other. In the end the murderer is discovered by the almost "all knowing super" detective and is someone least expected.
I guess that's the thrill of it all - these days most things are so predictable that you don't get that rush of discovering the truth, you saw it coming... So even though you want to feel like you're all that and more by being able to work out the "who dunnit and why", you cannot truly enjoy the glory as you would if you had truly been challenged.
This is where this crime novel gets you. I had played around with the idea of the 'real murderer' but I had only done so 'cause I was expecting the unexpected. I had no idea as to the how's and why's and what not. So I can't really say that I'd had it figured out and wasn't caught by surprise when all was revealed.
I WAS surprised. I would never have expected such a crime and the criminal. Apart from this I was caught completely off guard as all the secrets of all the suspects, and then some, came out. It gave me a thrill to be 'wowed'. I will not reveal details as I hate spoilers, and I'm sure there's plenty of people who have yet to have read the book....
For those who wish to know the whole story (without reading the book) - there's Google.

"Subha Hone Na De Full Song"
We all loved this song when we first heard it, before we even saw the movie. In fact, its probably the main reason I even bothered to watch this movie. I must say, I don't think too highly of the movie "Desi Boys" itself - its not bad, and has its moments, but I'm not overly fanatic about it. I still believe this song is about the best thing about the movie.
Even though this song was late to arrive on the scene last year, I still had hopes that it would make it to number 1 on the Lotus FM top 100 songs of the year 2011 list. Unfortunately "Teri Meri" from Salman Khan's "Bodyguard" beat it to that position, leaving "Subha Hone Na De" at number 3 or 4, I think (if memory serves me right).
Anyhoo despite that, this is still a favourite! So enjoy :)
Those strange unexpected conversations...
Its strange how you can know someone so well and for so long and be so close to them, and yet never truly be able to have a 'real' conversation with them. By 'real' conversation I mean one of those completely philosophical, spiritual and self revealing conversations. Yet someone whom you maybe met once or twice and know briefly, you're able to have the deepest most meaningful conversations with....
I have just had one of the best conversations with one such amazing person. This is about the third or fourth time that we have had one of our completely random chats. They usually start by one of us commenting on the other's status or profile picture (on BBM - yeah judge away, I usually hate BBM too, but it has its moments, I'm willing to admit it) and before we know it we end up having the deepest and most serious conversations, with a good few laughs in between too. And at the end of it I'm just left realizing that I'd revealed more about myself to her than to most people, and also discovering things about myself I hadn't even known!
I haven't seen this 'friend' since last year, and that too briefly, yet I feel that I know her better than some of the people 'close' to me and that she knows me better than they do too. I actually look forward to these random conversations about once a month and it does me a world of good. I find that if I've been depressed for whatever reason, this usually manages to cheer me up and help me feel better about myself. On the whole these conversations just leave me feeling in a good mood and good about life and maybe even the world. I find that there may be hope for humanity after all....
Anyhoo I just felt so rejuvenated after that chat that I felt the need to share it...
I think that did help'rapture my life' in some sense... :)
Strange how life works hey....
Peace out lovely people and rock on!

The Curling Wand Trials
I have tried, time and time again, to curl my hair. And time and time again, I fail. Hopelessly. I've tried half heartedly many a time and it turned out, eh... well it wasn't too bad, but lets just say that I wouldn't go out in public with hair like that.
So there came a point when I just gave up. If I wanted curls then I would just have to go to the salon and get them done professionally! So I'd settled myself to this decision, then one day my friend decided to curl her hair for an occasion. She took really small pieces of hair and made tiny little spirals of curls (which is what I've always wanted and could never get! Even at a salon - they always end up giving me big curls). And I've always been a bit too lazy to do that, especially when just fooling around to see how it would look. But now, seeing how well it turned out on my friend's hair I thought I had found my solution!
Alas I concluded that if I made little curls it would totally work! So along comes my cousin's wedding and I have decided that I am GOING to curl my hair and look AMAZING! So I attempt the little curls. I go to my mother for approval after doing about half my hair (which took FOREVER) and she deems it good enough to continue. So I do. Only to realize by the time I'm on the last curl that it looks horribly disastrous and HUGE! Then my mother sees me and completely gawks demanding that I get rid of that horrendous hair do asap! While I'm still trying to wrap my head around this, my sister walks in and near falls down, sari and all! And this is all about half an hour before we have to leave!
So it was decided that I had to straighten my hair. And try to salvage it. Alas, there was not enough time. And I had done each curl with about a handful of gel to make sure it held... And hold it did! I rinsed my and still the gel stuck. So I attempted to straighten it, but as I said, there was not enough time, and I did not have in my possession a ghd, which might have made a greater difference. So I went to my first cousin's wedding (which my entire boyfriend's family was at too, for reasons that have no place here) with big hair in a frizz :(

That's me in the long bluish dress (with the bad hair)
After this I had deemed my lesson learnt finally. And had assumed that it was not me, but rather the old curling tong which was at fault...
So I recently obtained a new one - a curling wand. I anxiously waited for the weekend to get a chance to use it. I sat myself down in front of the mirror with the curling wand and my hair. And I gave up quarter way through. At first I thought it was going okay, but then things just went horribly wrong and I started feeling dizzy and I just decided it was better if I just let it be. So I tried to uncurl it, then brush it out - fail. So in the end I just put a hoodie over it.
I think I just need to get someone else to do it for me as I just cannot get to all my hair and curl it appropriately. The only thing I succeeded in doing today was giving myself an even worse hair do and burning a finger!
So I'm giving up on the curling tong/wand dream for now, and tomorrow I'm gonna try my hand at rollers... :D
