Those strange unexpected conversations...

Its strange how you can know someone so well and for so long and be so close to them, and yet never truly be able to have a 'real' conversation with them. By 'real' conversation I mean one of those completely philosophical, spiritual and self revealing conversations. Yet someone whom you maybe met once or twice and know briefly, you're able to have the deepest most meaningful conversations with....

I have just had one of the best conversations with one such amazing person. This is about the third or fourth time that we have had one of our completely random chats. They usually start by one of us commenting on the other's status or profile picture (on BBM - yeah judge away, I usually hate BBM too, but it has its moments, I'm willing to admit it) and before we know it we end up having the deepest and most serious conversations, with a good few laughs in between too. And at the end of it I'm just left realizing that I'd revealed more about myself to her than to most people, and also discovering things about myself I hadn't even known!

I haven't seen this 'friend' since last year, and that too briefly, yet I feel that I know her better than some of the people 'close' to me and that she knows me better than they do too. I actually look forward to these random conversations about once a month and it does me a world of good. I find that if I've been depressed for whatever reason, this usually manages to cheer me up and help me feel better about myself. On the whole these conversations just leave me feeling in a good mood and good about life and maybe even the world. I find that there may be hope for humanity after all....

Anyhoo I just felt so rejuvenated after that chat that I felt the need to share it...

I think that did help'rapture my life' in some sense... :)

Strange how life works hey....

Peace out lovely people and rock on!

The Curling Wand Trials

I have tried, time and time again, to curl my hair. And time and time again, I fail. Hopelessly. I've tried half heartedly many a time and it turned out, eh... well it wasn't too bad, but lets just say that I wouldn't go out in public with hair like that.

So there came a point when I just gave up. If I wanted curls then I would just have to go to the salon and get them done professionally! So I'd settled myself to this decision, then one day my friend decided to curl her hair for an occasion. She took really small pieces of hair and made tiny little spirals of curls (which is what I've always wanted and could never get! Even at a salon - they always end up giving me big curls). And I've always been a bit too lazy to do that, especially when just fooling around to see how it would look. But now, seeing how well it turned out on my friend's hair I thought I had found my solution!

Alas I concluded that if I made little curls it would totally work! So along comes my cousin's wedding and I have decided that I am GOING to curl my hair and look AMAZING! So I attempt the little curls. I go to my mother for approval after doing about half my hair (which took FOREVER) and she deems it good enough to continue. So I do. Only to realize by the time I'm on the last curl that it looks horribly disastrous and HUGE! Then my mother sees me and completely gawks demanding that I get rid of that horrendous hair do asap! While I'm still trying to wrap my head around this, my sister walks in and near falls down, sari and all! And this is all about half an hour before we have to leave!

So it was decided that I had to straighten my hair. And try to salvage it. Alas, there was not enough time. And I had done each curl with about a handful of gel to make sure it held... And hold it did! I rinsed my and still the gel stuck. So I attempted to straighten it, but as I said, there was not enough time, and I did not have in my possession a ghd, which might have made a greater difference. So I went to my first cousin's wedding (which my entire boyfriend's family was at too, for reasons that have no place here) with big hair in a frizz :(

That's me in the long bluish dress (with the bad hair)

After this I had deemed my lesson learnt finally. And had assumed that it was not me, but rather the old curling tong which was at fault...

So I recently obtained a new one - a curling wand. I anxiously waited for the weekend to get a chance to use it. I sat myself down in front of the mirror with the curling wand and my hair. And I gave up quarter way through. At first I thought it was going okay, but then things just went horribly wrong and I started feeling dizzy and I just decided it was better if I just let it be. So I tried to uncurl it, then brush it out - fail. So in the end I just put a hoodie over it.

I think I just need to get someone else to do it for me as I just cannot get to all my hair and curl it appropriately. The only thing I succeeded in doing today was giving myself an even worse hair do and burning a finger!

So I'm giving up on the curling tong/wand dream for now, and tomorrow I'm gonna try my hand at rollers... :D

The truth

The truth is that I guess people just don't like me or just don't like what I have to say. Its really sad and it hurts a lot. I know it shouldn't and that I really shouldn't care, but I can't help it... I just discovered someone that I studied at university with and thought of as a super awesome person has 'unfollowed' me on Twitter. I guess I shouldn't read too much into it and take it so personally, but HOW can I NOT?! I mean seriously?!  So yeah, I'm now gonna try and nurse my wounded ego *sniff sniff*
Peace out rockstars

Anne of Green Gables

I recall having watched this movie on TV a good few years ago, I must have been between 11 and 13. My mum had always told me of "Anne of Green Gables" and I was so excited to FINALLY get to watch it. Though, apart from Anne's red hair, her being adopted by a strict old lady and some stuff with a hot guy, I really cannot remember much else about the movie.

Alas, I had quite forgotten about dear Anne until I came across the book sitting on my cousin's bookshelf this year. And the darling that she is, she learnt me the book by L. M. Montgomery.

Thinking about the book now I am unable to quite bring my opinions into words, though I do know that I enjoyed it.

We first meet Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert and get a sort of feel for them and we then meet Anne. And she is a completely spritely young girl who seems wiser beyond her years.

We fall in love with this little girl and embark on her journey to becoming a young woman in this book. We experience all the lessons she learns along the way, the friends she makes, basically all the important events in her life which lead to the person she is to become, and not forgetting her infamous rivalry with the dashing Gilbert Blythe. We become engrossed in all these little bits and pieces of Anne's life and are eager to see what will happen next, and to know what will become of Anne Shirley...

I am a little disappointed when Anne seems to lose a bit of her bubbly personality as she gets older, but I came to realize that she is still the same Anne, just a bit more refined and with a more realistic view on life. At the end of the day, even the sparky Anne of Green Gables couldn't go by completely unscathed by life....

The most disappointing thing for me was the death of Matthew Cuthbert. I still wish he hadn't died. Even though he was a quiet character (that's probably why I felt a greater attachment to him), he was probably my favourite after Anne. He really had such a good and clean heart and I guess I just sympathized with him as I felt an understanding for and of him.

But death in a novel, like in life, is something you just have to eventually get over. And so though I still mourn him, I am able to deal with his loss and see how his death fitted into the greater scheme of the novel, and in particular, with the route Anne's life was to take...

All in all it was a good read.

I hadn't known that Anne of Green Gable's was the first book of a series previously, I was completely surprised when I found out. And now I have to read the rest! Even though I basically know what's going to happen (as I could not stop myself from reading the snippets of each book). So I am now patiently waiting for my dear cousin to get her hands on the rest of the books :)

Zulu Dancing at Ushaka, Durban

Traditional isiZulu dancing with a bit of a twist here and there, plus shoddy camera work from the behind, a really annoying man who keeps getting in my way and a lil kiddie doing some entertaining on the side... :p
